Hi, It’s me, your favourite B 😀
Jokes aside, I strongly believe that Roll in RO should not be about me. This initiative may come from me, but it is about all of us, about a collective desire that is far stronger than any individual aspiration.
However, like any idea, it was ignited by a spark, and I feel it’s important to share my personal experience that gave birth to this project. I believe in transparency as a core value, not just as a form of respect, but also as a way to connect with others on a deeper level. By being open and vulnerable, sharing both what drives us and what holds us back, we create a space where mutual support becomes possible. We learn from each other’s successes and struggles equally.
I will keep the narrative short. I spent most of my childhood in Urziceni, a small town, typical for Romanian culture, where the collective desire for well-being in coexistence is strong, but the obstacles to achieving it were equally significant. Growing up in this town, there were limited options for us to practice sports or physical activities, and I didn’t engage in many. Later on, life brought me to Barcelona, where I lived for six years for work. It was there that I discovered a new lifestyle, healthier for both myself and for the environment— a lifestyle that I now aspire to nurture and develop here in Romania.
Now, one of the most important lessons I’ve learned and triggered my desire to connect and contribute to the collective good, is that my experience is not unique. Many of us come from similar environments with ridiculously similar backgrounds, face the same challenges, and share the same public space. The moment we realise we’re not alone, we feel a sense of liberation. We understand that we’re in this together, and together, we are stronger. Together, we have a real chance to overcome obstacles and improve our circumstances.
Another insight that has become clear to me is that we are all driven by the same instinct for preservation, even if sometimes we find ourselves acting against it. Roll in RO is about the love for life, about caring for our individual and collective health, and also for the health of our environment.
James Clear, the author of Atomic Habits, talks about how our environment facilitates the creation of systems where healthy habits can prevail over harmful ones. Through this project, I hope we can delve deeper into understanding the factors that harm our health and work together to create increasingly optimal conditions for coexistence and evolution.
I’ve also come to realize that change is a process. Achievements are rarely visible overnight. But when we look back and reflect on what has led to the present situation, we see that we are in a constant state of evolution. Progress is inevitable when we desire it and work towards making it a reality.
Along with this understanding comes another important idea: that by embracing duality and accepting that for every thing that went “right,” there were as well countless things that went “wrong,” we can appreciate the natural process of evolution. By adopting a willingness to make mistakes on the path to success, and correcting things without harsh criticism, we increase our chances of making a visible impact.
Roll in RO is my way of bringing up what I’ve learned and experienced, aiming to create around shared experiences a community that values health, sustainability, and togetherness. It’s a project born out of my personal journey, but it’s one that belongs to all of us.
Let’s roll forward together, embracing the challenges and celebrating the progress we make, no matter how small.
LOVE, B
